Although the Convocation is now past, you'll find that Newberry's a great place from which to travel to other spots in the region: the SC coast (Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head, Charleston, Beaufort, the Sea Islands), the mountains of N Carolina, Savannah and Atlanta, and Florida. Columbia has a nationally recognized zoo with lots of exotic species in a natural environment. The botanical gardens next door to the zoo are excellent.
